Program Information

Pool KidPrivate Sewage Treatment Systems 
Household sewage treatment systems are permitted and inspected through this office. Aeration sewage treatment systems are inspected annually to insure they are working correctly and other existing sewage treatment systems when they are located either by complaint or repair. Upon request, household sewage treatment systems are inspected for real estate transactions.  Here is a listing of Approved Sewage Contractors in the Central Ohio area. 

Private Water Supplies
Private water systems are permitted and inspected by this office. Water samples are taken upon request to evaluate for bacteria and nitrate only.

Public Swimming Pools and Spas
Inspects public pools and spas, such as those at community centers, hotels and apartment complexes within the City of Columbus and Worthington. Provides training for pool and spa operators.

  • Attention Pool & Spa Operators - Important information about unblockable pool or spa drains and the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act 
  • Pool and Spa Safety Training Course - A free, two-hour class covering the basic principles of pool and spa operations and the health and safety practices that are necessary to have a safe and successful aquatic facility. This class is designed for individuals who are managing or maintaining a public pool or spa in and around the Columbus area.    For course workbook and other publications, see "Publications" section of this page.

  • Certified Pool Operator® Course  - This two-day course is designed to help broaden knowledge for the operation of swimming pools, spas and spray grounds in our community. Fee for course and materials.
  • Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Requirements for Swimming Pools - We have received many inquiries about the new accessibility requirements for swimming pools.  Click here for specific information from the Department of Justice, who enforces ADA requirements.   

Color-Coded Signage
At all of our licensed facilities, including public pools and spas, we now post a small color-coded sign that is based on the results of the most recent inspection. To find out what sign is posted, search our online inspection results (see below).
