The personal and collective choices we make are shaped by the options we have.
Together, we can make Columbus a more active, vibrant city.
Policy
The Healthy Places program and the Institute testified before city council, coordinated, and advocated for several of these policy changes.
The Institute created the Active Living City Advisory Committee to coordinate efforts and increase the number of health prevention and wellness policies in city departments.
The group's 2009 project achieved marked improvement in the community design of the African American Male and Family Wellness Walk, making it more pedestrian friendly.

How Can I Live a More Active Life?
Enjoy fresh, local produce.
- Go to a farmer’s market.
- Help plant a community garden.
Move every day.
- Ride your bike instead of driving.
- Join other parents in taking turns walking your kids to school.
- Help make a walking map of your neighborhood.
Let your voice be heard.
Contact city officials to ask them to include active community design in policy making, including:
- Easy access to fresh food
- Walking paths and bikeways
- Sidewalks
