Infant Death Investigation Training

Each year in Ohio, about 180 infants die unexpectedly with no apparent cause of death.  Training was held June 8-9, 2011 to provide new techniques for investigating and reporting infant deaths.  Coroners, child protective services, death investigators, law enforcement, and child fatality review from around the state participated.

At this time no additional trainings have been scheduled; however, we hope to offer more in the future.  Please contact Andrea Hauser at alhauser@columbus.gov to be added to the training notification email list.

Course Description

Sudden Unexplained Infant Death (SUID) requires thorough examination of the death scene, a review of the clinical history, a detailed interview and performance of a complete autopsy in order to accurately determine the cause and manner of death.  This course will cover important information all investigators need to know in order to complete a thorough death investigation of an infant.  A multi-disciplinary approach is encouraged, so all potential members of a death investigation team should attend.
