Healthy Children, Healthy Weights (HCHW) is designed to prevent childhood overweight and obesity by promoting healthy weight and growth in all children, starting with the youngest age group – birth to five years old.
Healthy Children Healthy Weights partners with early learning centers, including childcare centers and preschools, to provide practical strategies to establish environments and policies that promote healthy weight in children. The program can also be a great resource for parents and others who care for or work with young children.

Going Strong Since 2004
Since 2004, Healthy Children, Healthy Weights (HCHW) has trained over 100 early learning centers including Head Start Centers, Columbus City Schools’ Early Learning Department, and independent childcare centers. That means reaching over 10,000 children since it was originally piloted in the City of Columbus. The program has now been adopted by other communities around Ohio.
HCHW was one of eleven programs in the nation selected as a promising practice by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in 2008 and in 2005, HCHW received a Model Practice Award from the National City and County Health Officials Association.
